Facts and Benefits of Chemical Treatment
Ultraviolet rays of sun, pollution, smoking, sleeping disorders or a diet lacking in greens but full of sugary substance are of the common known reasons of a dull, blotchy, lusterless oxygen-starved skin with numerous disorders like wrinkles, tans, acne, severe tanning and many more. Chemical peel is a single solution to these skin problems and even to aliments like Actinic keratosis. Following are some facts and benefits related to a chemical peeling treatment:
- Chemical peeling is the controlled removal or destruction of the uppermost layer of the skin at different levels. A chemical ointment containing various forms of organic acids is applied on skin. It percolates into skin and when dried it peels off taking away acne, dead cells, scars and other skin disorders present in that layer of skin. A new fresh problem-free layer is produced by the skin to replace the lost layer.
- The depth of skin peel chosen by a dermatologist or professional cosmetic expert depends upon the skin quality, which layer to remove, what is the root layer where the problem lies and what is medical history of the patient like whether he is allergic to certain elements present in organic acids. For example acne is curable by a superficial skin peel but the scar may remain. A deeper chemical peel is then suggested.
- There are three types of chemical peel depending upon the depth of the skin it removes: Superficial, Medium and Deep skin peels. A superficial peel is the gentlest on skin targeting only the uppermost epidermal layer. It contains AHA, BHA and common ingredients found in any anti-ageing products in the market. You can take as many as superficial skin peeling treatments as your doctor suggests. These are usually used in spas. A deep skin peel treatment is performed with local anesthesia and a sedative. A patient can have only one deep skin peeling treatment in his life.
- Most of treatment takes not more than an hour per sitting. Six to ten sittings or one single sitting may be enough to treat your problem. Chemical peeling treatment has lesser downtime as compared to cosmetic surgery of skin for similar problems.
- Recovery times for medium peels are 7 to 14 days. In deep peels the face is bandaged for a week. It takes 14 to 21 days to heal. You need to apply prescribed ointment and soak your face several times a day to prevent permanent scars. Staying indoors and taking antiviral medicines are a must.
